India's top automobile producer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has introduced its first all-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, priced from ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This launch marks an important step for the company as it enters the rapidly growing electric vehicle sector in India.
Pricing & Ownership Model
The e-Vitara’s introductory price is ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom) under a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model.
BaaS means the battery isn’t included in the upfront price; instead, owners pay a separate battery rental or per-km usage charge (reported at around ₹3.99 per km).
This approach reduces the entry price but adds running costs tied to battery usage.
Battery & Range
The e-Vitara is expected to come with multiple battery pack options:
49 kWh battery pack
61 kWh battery pack
Claimed driving range: Up to 543 km on a single charge (depending on variant). It also supports fast charging, allowing quicker top-ups for daily and highway usage.

Design & Features
The e-Vitara gets a bold SUV stance with modern EV styling:
Closed-off EV grille design
LED headlamps & DRLs
Stylish alloy wheels
Premium dual-tone interior
Large touchscreen infotainment system
Digital instrument cluster
Advanced connected car tech
Safety is also expected to be strong with multiple airbags, ADAS features (in top variants), and a high safety rating target.
Competition in the Segment
The e-Vitara will compete with electric SUVs like:
Tata Curvv EV
Hyundai Creta EV
MG ZS EV
With aggressive pricing, Maruti aims to dominate the mass EV segment just like it has in the petrol car market.
